Rain

"
I wondered around the shopping mall. There were many people walking around, come and go. The clouds outside the mall started to gather around. The black clouds were like giants, hovering around us, threatening to come down on us if we don’t run for our live soon. Staying inside the mall seemed to be a great idea. At least you will have a roof above your head to protect you from the harsh rain drops that are going to fall on you.

I wondered around. Not knowing what I am supposed t o do. I have nothing to buy, I just want to go home, tucked in my comfortable blanket and the rich smell of the warm dinner waiting for me. The sky is getting darker by every minute, before I can stepped out from the building and run home, it was raining cats and dogs.

I fished out my hand phone and dialed the usual number. There was a ringing tone. Not long after that, she picked up the phone.

‘Mum, I am stuck in the shopping mall, it is raining and I forgot to bring my umbrella. Can you come and fetch me?”

“Can’t you wait for the rain to stop? There will be a big jam at there, if I fetch you, I will get wet too. We will see how later.”

I looked out to the view outside the mall. The rain was not going to stop so soon. It was already 6 o’clock. The dark clouds made the place look so dark as if it is already night time. Everyone is rushing into the mall. Some even have the luck to be able to get home by car.

I never liked staying outside at night all alone. The fear somehow just grip hard into my heart and makes me feel uneasy. I want to go home. I want to go home NOW. But, it seems that mum won’t be able to be my ‘knight in shining armor’ this time.

Stubbornly, I don’t want to use my money to buy an umbrella and I want to get home no matter what. So, I put the precious books that I bought earlier today into plastic bags and make sure that they won’t get wet after my rash decision.

I make my way down to the car park. Cars are coming in, the whole place is wet with the cars coming in, dripping wet.

Maybe I should stay in the fast food shop and wait for the rain to stop. But, I want to get home. I don’t like being alone outside during rainy day and also nearing night time.

So, I took a deep breath and went out. The rain drops were falling on me merciless, wetting my clothes and my hair. I lowered my head so that I can look at the road without the rain drops falling into my eyes. I did not run. Because running with a shoe that can sometimes make you fall doesn’t seem to be a pleasant idea. Especially lying on the floor, with no one to help you to tend to your wounds.

Oh, I walked. The usual route looked so far away for me now. The bus stop was like ages away. When I finally arrived the bus stop, I was soaked wet, hair dripping with water and a guy standing in the bus stop looked at me in awe. I didn’t stop. I just went out the bus stop and exposed myself under the cold rain again.

The rain drops are actually not that gentle after all. They were hard and when the y fall on me, I feel the stinging feeling as if something had just pinched on me.

The rain was heavy. I am starting to get cold. The situation went worse when the cold breeze blows towards me. I nearly cried in the rain. The cold breeze of rain seems so fun and nice when you are in a house, with a hot cup of tea. But it is totally different when you are on a deserted street, all alone with only the lamp post guiding your way home through the vile of rain drops. I am nearly there. Cross the small bridge and I will have to walk a small distance to home.

The water under the bridge seems to be like thousand horses riding through the field. The yellow colour water was rushing through and I was so scared that the bridge will not hold my weight and collapsed.

When I finally crossed the small bridge, before I can give out my sigh of relief, a lightning came through the black clouds, blinding my eyes. Now, I know that this is the worst idea that I ever made in my whole life. Getting struck by lightning doesn’t seem to be a very cool thing to do when you are soaking wet from head to toe and you are panting heavily after dragging your feet through a few centimeter high of water.

I tried to get near something that is higher than me, but not near enough to get myself struck. The journey was immensely suffering. Lightning striking every few minutes, the rain doesn’t seem to get merci on you and most of it, when I got near my house, there was a big flood the whole place is flooded. The water from the drain flowed out and the water was high enough to cover my whole ankle. This is the worst decision that I ever made in my life time. I got scared. This is much awful than the last time. I took a deep breath and walked into the water. Luckily that the water is not like strong currents that will pull me away though it looks vicious when I saw it. But then, there was a loud sound of something cracking and falling down. I looked back and saw the waters are rushing like monsters, collapsing one of the cover on the drain. This is the worst nightmare that I ever had and experiencing it.

I finally reached home. But drat. I forgot to take out my keys. I have to knock on the gate hoping that some one will notice that I am as wet as a kitten and soon will fall if nobody cares to take me in.

I was dripping wet. My parents were shocked that I walked home under that heavy rain. I pursed my lips, not wanting to tell them my awful expedition and get scolded for doing stupid things. After all, my mum seems to feel guilty for not fetching me. So, she did not press on me and I rushed to the toilet, feeling so blessed that I have a home and a water heater, plus a houseful of people that will take care of my wet books. I am so grateful.

This maybe my only experience walking in the rain. The idea doesn’t seem to be romantic or fun to me anymore. It was scary and I won’t want to try it another time in this near future..."
